Levite Solicitors Partners with Hilary Ibegbulem Foundation to Empower Inmates with Legal Aid & Support

Hilary Ibegbulem Foundation in partnership with Levite Solicitors went to Nigeria Correctional Services for Outreach and to take up cases of indigents members of the society On the 17th of March, Levite Solicitors, in partnership with the Hilary Ibegbulem Foundation, visited two correctional facilities as part of an outreach program to support inmates with essential supplies and legal assistance. The team first visited the Nigeria Correctional Service, FCT Command, where they met with Olatubosun Dele Ajibogun, FCIA, MI, the Controller of Corrections. He welcomed the delegation, provided insights into the facility, and offered guidance on interacting with the inmates. During this visit, the foundation donated essential supplies such as foodstuffs, groceries, and bedding to improve inmates’ living conditions. Additionally, the foundation’s founder, Hilary Ibegbulem, shared his personal experiences about the impact of past decisions, encouraging inmates to stay hopeful about rehabilitation. Levite Solicitors was present to provide legal aid to inmates in need of representation. However, as most individuals at the Gwagwalada Prison had already been convicted and were serving their sentences, the focus remained on support and advocacy rather than immediate legal intervention. The team then proceeded to the Suleja Correctional Facility, where they engaged with selected groups of male and female inmates. The delegation listened to their concerns and provided words of encouragement, while the foundation continued its donation efforts. A few inmates were also identified for potential legal assistance. The visit concluded with a reflection on the importance of legal representation and rehabilitation programs in the justice system. Levite Solicitors remains committed to offering pro bono legal aid where necessary, and the Hilary Ibegbulem Foundation continues to support inmates through welfare initiatives. This initiative was a step towards bridging the gap between legal advocacy and humanitarian support, reinforcing the need for collaborative efforts in prison reform and inmate welfare.
